JESUS SAID: I am the way, the truth and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me. Have you thought about the spiritual condition of yourself and your players?
Proverbs 16:3 tells us to commit to the Lord WHATEVER you do, and your plans will succeed.
The Holy Bible tells us to raise up our young people in the the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and when they are older they will not depart from it. In this day and time, how relevant that scripture really becomes!!!

Hope those that have completed two a days now are settling in for a good solid two hour practice schedule
each day. After two hours you lose concentration, fatigue sets in, etc. and not much gets accomplished.
But, I always recommend that the two hours be kept UP TEMPO and every coach and player be hustling
at all times. EMPHASIZE RUNNING AT ALL TIMES. IF THEY HUSTLE FOR TWO HOURS AND MOVE, IT CUT'S DOWN ON THE NECESSITY OF RUNNING A LOT EXTRA AT THE END OF PRACTICE. AFTER A GOOD SOLID HUSTLING PRACTICE, 10 20 YARD GASSERS IS USUALLY ADAQUATE.

How many do conditioning at the end of practice? Though retired now, about 15 years ago we started conditioning early in practice. We would start with our warmup, stretch, special teams, and then conditioning.
When we conditioned at the end of practice we found players holding back some for the conditioning. This worked well to allievate that problem.
Whatever worked for you, I wouldn't change. I started coaching in 1964 and always ran our sprints, gassers, endurance runs, etc. at the end of practice. Just never saw a reason to change. Just my way.

As the season opener gets closer and closer with each passing day, take the time to relieve the pressure from the kids and staff by having a team "night out" or get together. It don't have to be fancy, just something that the kids enjoy doing, as well as, the staff and yourself.
One of my favorites to do was to combine a WATERMELON BUST and a CORN ROAST. You can always use a park or public picnic grounds if you don't have enough room at your place. Shop around and get some really good melons from a guy who grows his own and has a road side stand as they put the store bought ones to shame for taste. Do the same for the corn. If your lucky enough to coach in a rural setting maybe you have a few farm boys on the squad who's parents will donate the produce.
At any rate, we would dig a pit in the sand or dirt and line the bottom with some bricks. Then, we would
heap on the oak firewood and charcoal briquettes and let them burn all the way down until you have nothing but a bed of glowing coals. The, you wrap the corn in tin foil after soaking it in butter and just toss it in the coals. When it is ready it will make your tonsils stand at attention as the taste is really something. We used to eat until we about exploded! Keep the melons on ice and water in big old # 2 wash tubs and top off the corn with a big old slice of that! The kids will have a great time, the staff and wives love to do it, and it is a great way to just have a time of relaxation with your players. ive it a try as it will do wonders for the team morale.

IT IS NOW WEDNESDAY ALREADY. JAMBOREE OR OPENING THIS FRIDAY, IT MATTERS NOT COACH. HAVE YOUR GUYS READY TO HIT 'EM HARD, HIT 'EM OFTEN EVERY SINGLE PLAY!!! WHEN YOU GET 'EM DOWN, PUT YOUR HEEL ON THEIR THROAT AND DON'T LET 'EM UP!!! FOOTBALL IS ABOUT BEING TOUGH AND PHYSICAL AND PLAYED BY MEN OF THAT PERSUASION, NOT BY THESE "GIRLIE MEN" THAT WE SEE ALL OVER THE PLACE TODAY!!! HIT 'EM HIGH, HIT 'EM LOW, GANG TACKLE 'EM AND NEVER EVER LET THE QB GO A SINGLE PLAY WITHOUT HITTING HIM (AS LONG AS IT IS A LEGAL HIT OF COURSE). NO CHEAP SHOTS EVER, JUST GOOD CLEAN HARD NOSED FOOTBALL THE WAY THE GAME WAS MEANT TO BE PLAYED!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Make certain only players who NEED TAPE GET TAPED. Unnecessary taping can be harmful to the player!
I always liked my RB's to get their ankles taped before a game or practice. But, every team has the types who love to spat their shoes, etc. and all that does is cost you money for tape!
Coach Easton-TIGER ONE
J.C. EASTON
HEAD COACH
GA TIGERS FOOTBALL
PROFESSIONAL MINOR LEAGUE
coach Easton,
you are correct the spat look just costs money as it doesn't support the ankle very well. the tape applied directly to the ankle/foot gives the best support. Also having a trainer/coach who knows how to tape will save you tape along with give the player the best support.
