We move our stem and slant our front as much as possible. Our 3 tech starts head up on the strong guard and then stems or slants from there. Our 1 Tech starts head up on the center and stems or slants from there. Same with our ends. 5 tech head up on the weakside tackle and 7 tech head up on the TE.
We coordiante the calls to make sure we are sound. I have always been of the philosophy to stem and stunt the front.
Rex Ryan was one of the speakers at the 2008 COOL Clinic (worth every penny by the way), and he mentioned that when he plays his defensive line head up he doesn't worry about gap responsibilities, he just asks his guys to knock their opponent back into the backfield. He says that even if they get hooked and end up in the wrong gap they're ok if that happens 3-4 yards into the backfield. They don't play this technique all the time but I'm sure its effective at keeping guards off the LBs.
