Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
as i said in a earlier post i was tossed tin the fire without warning and now i am begging for you help. the coach of 9-10 football team here in wetumpka, alabama quit without warning 5 days before practice began.so when the leagues president called me i became coach. so far i have installed a split backfield shotgun offense. we run SOME option out of this along with simple sweeps and fakes. majority of the time we run 2 TEs with a wing back. does anyone know of any playbooks that would go along with what i have already installed?our jamboree is this upcoming saturday then we get the next 2 weeks off so i have a couple of weeks to add to it ( strickly vanilla offense at jamboree) if so please e-mail me at cfbfan2006@aol.com. thanks in advance
Coach, we run the following out of what we call our Pro Gun and Ace Gun sets:
Stretch (Outside Zone) - we block this the same as Toss rather than next man over (full zone)
Inside Zone - same blocking as inside zone play under center, usually run from Ace (FB aligns as Weakside TE)
QB Power/Counter - we do not pull a guard on power but do pull the backside guard and tackle (if he's uncovered) just as we do on Power and Counter under center
Veer - did not run last season but was very successful the season before, takes some time to get the mesh down but once mastered, it can really cause a defense problems if you have a good athlete/decision maker at QB - I love to run this to the field using a Trey of Trips set if you have kids on the perimeter who can block for you - bubble screen to the inside receiver is a great complementary play IMO
On all non-QB runs out of the gun we do have our blocker release inside and then have our QB read the backside EMOL. If he becomes aggressive trying to run the play down from behind, the QB will simply pull the football and replace him. If your QB is a good athlete, this will definitely discourage their backside defenders from pursuing the ball too hard and put pressure on them to remain sound away from the ball.
I would recommend that you block anything you run from the gun pretty much the same way you would have under center.
Best of luck with your new positions coach, even if they were a little "unexpected"!
