I am having a hard time getting my kids to fire off the ball. I can remeber a drill that my old line coach had us do in high school that he called the "harness drill". The drill consisted of 2 guys in a 3 pnt stance back to back attached together with a harness and rope or something. I can remember this really helping us get off the ball quicker and staying low. I am having a hard time finding anything like this to purchase. Does anyone have any idea where I could find something like this? Has anyone ever heard of this?
Coach the best way to get the kids off the ball is to have them get in their stances and get-off on your cadence for offense or on the ball for defense. All those other things are a waste of time.
coach,
Stance is the key starting point both offense and defense. They can't be sitting back on their heels not ready to exploe out of their stance and into their opponent. On offense they know the snap count and who they have to block. Anticipation of the snap count and a bit of fire in their step. Hustling from the huddle and up to the line ready to go. Keep it up tempo. I have also used the cadance "red 19, red 18 HIT" instead of using the word hut. Brings the mental aspect of it's time to hit.
Coach De La Salle everyday of their off season works the linemen on a 6" step, and they are one of the finer lines in high school football, they definitely get off.
