So, I've been discussing 46 zone coverage with a lot of you and heard a lot about this means of coverage:
........................................F
.............................W..................M
C.........................E.....T....N.....T.....S...E......................C
X............................T...G...C...G...T...E..........................X
........................................Q
........................................F
........................................T
FS: Deep middle 1/3
CBs: Deep outside 1/3s.
RE: Curl to Flat.
WLB: Hook to Curl.
MLB: Hook to Curl.
SLB: Curl to Flat.
RT: Outside contain rush.
But, I was reading Rex Ryans book last night and learned he does things a little differently:
........................................F
.............................W..................M
C.........................E.....T....T.....E.....S...$......................C
X............................T...G...C...G...T...E..........................X
........................................Q
........................................F
........................................T
FS: Deep middle 1/3.
CBs: Deep outside 1/3s.
WLB: Curl to Flat.
MLB: Hook to Curl.
SLB: Hook to Curl.
SS: Curl to Flat.
Now, FOR SOME REASON, he doesn't discuss whether or not the left end loops around the end to contain. I'd imagine he must. Do any of you know for certain?
...as for the MAIN QUESTION I wanted to ask: which coverage scheme do you coaches prefer, and why?
I suppose I like Rex Ryan's means of doing things a little more. #1) You've got a Strong Safety/Rover LB-type covering the curl to flat as opposed to a DE. #2) You've got a DE looping around to contain as opposed to a DT (I'm assuming at least).
Thank you very much for any opinions on the matter!
Sincerely,
Blue
