As a Center I love it. As a Coach I love it. My style of using it might be unique in ways that I believe for Pass Protection it should work like this. Your five down linemen, all just became Zone Defenders (just like a Defender roaming a specific section of the field looking for a man to cover) by default. They cover a specific area, and anyone who enters their "domain" as I call it now became their b***h and they need to punish this player. Outside blitzes and cracks in line are filled ALWAYS by your Blocking RBs, ALWAYS! On the Run it works the same way. You send them like a receiver, 'Run 3 yards Drive blocking the first person to get in your way.' It may sound idiotic but I think it works especially when you employ multiple blockers in an area to do this. I.E. The pulling guard is leading with the Center or fullback right behind, the Guard drive blocks or if he can flattens the first person out of his way and then the C, or FB comes through and clears out the next guy. Any additional blockers act as "slips" they hit someone enough to move them out of the runner's path and keep moving to be their body guards. This seems to be quite effective. It doesn't complicate the play more than it has to. It turns the worst blockers on your team (running backs) into decent blockers since they know how it feels to have someone watch their butts on the run.
Don't think I do this exclusively if I see we're getting beat because of the zone block I adjust. But otherwise I'm a firm believe that each lineman controls his own area and the RBs pick up the Blitz.
Questions, Comments, Disagree, Agree, completely hate it and feel like ripping me apart for certain reasons? Post 'em. I'm eager to start a discussion. I will explain it in greater detail if someone doesn't understand how it works or the terminology I created or at least i think i did
