Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
So, I'm thinking of a base 4-4 (4-2-5) in which the DE's are always in 5-techs and the OLBs (SSs) are always lined up in a 7-tech (outside edge) against a TE...like the Sam LB in a 4-3 Under. I like this idea for several reasons:
#1) With the DE's in 5-techs on both sides regardless of formation, I would have a LOT of freedom with my DTs. I could put them in 2i's against inside running teams, I could put them in 3's against outside running/passing teams, I could put them in 2's and play 2-gap principles, or hide them and shoot gaps, or ANY combination of the above!
#2) Reason #1 would also give me a LOT of freedom with my ILBs. For instance - If I'm up against a team with outside speed, I could line my ILBs up in 30's and my DTs in 2i's to protect them inside. I could put them in 21s with my DTs in 3s to force B and C gap runs back inside. I could put them in 20s, hide my DTs in 2's and play it straight or run stunts gallore.
#3) Against two-back teams I could blitz the OLB (SS) on the side without a #2 WR to cover, stunt the DE to that side in the B-gap, and stunt the DT to that side in the A-gap, essentially giving me a 46 Bear look, but without altering my base 4-4 (4-2-5) allignment.
Obviously, the biggest weakness of a defense like this would be the threat of my OLBs (SSs) getting reached by the TE. I think I could widen lesser athletes at OLB (SS) out enough to prevent this without creating weaknesses inside though. Does anyone else see any flaws that I'm missing? In general, what are your thoughts of this scheme?
I greatly appreciate any feedback!

ALL 4-2-5 (4-4) teams at one time or another go to a 4-3 OVER look vs. 3x1 sets!
