Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
In the 4-4 scheme, rather than just sitting back and playing a 3 tech and a 1 tech, how do you feel about lining both DT's in 2 techs along with the Ends also head up and slanting all 4 of them? Or, pinching them as well? I am a believer in moving the defense on the snap of the ball to create confusion and to take away angle blocking. Any advice on this would be helpful. Thanks
GO FOR IT, I DO IT ALL THE TIME. I HAVE RUN THE 4-2-5 FOR OVER 20 YEARS WHICH IS THE SAME THING AS THE 4-4 BASICALLY. WE RUN A SLANT GAP CALLED "42 PURPLE" AND ANOTHER WE CALL "EASTON SPECIAL" DESIGNED TO STOP OFF TACKLE BLEEDING. IN BOTH WE MOVE THE LINE TECHNIQUES AROUND IN THE PSL, I DIDN'T BELIEVE IN STEMMING MUCH ON THE HS LEVEL AS THE KIDS WOULD END UP OUT OF POSIITON A LOT OF THE TIME. THE LAST 12 YEARS OF MY CAREER AT THE PROFESSIONAL MINMOR LEAGUE LEVEL, WE WOULD STEM TO THEM ALOT! I THINK YOU ARE DOING IT THE WAY IT SHOULD BE DONE.

Would be so kind as to provide some detail on the 42 purple and the Easton Special. Next week we are playing a time that is physically better than us and likes to pound the ball off tackle. I am planning on loading up the box and running slants and stunts to try and compensate. Would be very interested in what you have done to stop the off tackle running game.

i run what i call the "22 front" as my base.........Dt's in 2-tech.......SDE in 6-tech.......WDE in 5-tech.........the 6-tech always slant hard down into the c-gap reading the hip of the OT.........the DT's either slant weak/strong, or pinch(a-gap), or fan (b-gap).........this front has worked best for me when i have had the smaller quicker DL.........i prefer the typical 31 front when i have a true 1-tech and a true 3-tech
I love to use it as a 3rd quarter change up. or just at the end of the 2nd half.
We call it 22 Stack, LB stacks the Dguards and we let the Guard/LB combo talk presnap to decide where the guard would shoot and the backer would fill.
Example: DGuard lines up head up OGuard with backer stacking. At the snap the guard shoots A gap and the backer fills B gap but its not a blitz.
Kids like it too as they feel they are part of the scheming and they like to set up the OG too.
Really messes them up when we are in a 31 all half then they go in, make adjustments then we throw that at them. I also like doing right before the end of half hoping we make some plays and they then have to go into half spend all the time working out their scheme.
I got the idea from my boss. He loves to line up in some funky formation and run some plays unlike what we usually do in hopes they decide to spend the entire half workig on stopping it. We then go out for the 2nd half and go right back to our regular offense.
If anyting it gives them one more thing to talk about. A 20 minute half goes quick!!! and that could be the edge you need.
