Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Coaches - I am interested in hearing your trapping rules (trapping from a 2 tech out) for a 1 back no TE set. As opposed to a 2 back set where one of the backs can fill or support in blocking the front, it seems as though there will usually be an unblocked defender (or two) that can cause a problem for the play. I realize we can motion to put another player in position to block but would like to avoid that. Also, do any of you find trapping with the tackle can be more useful than trapping with the guard? Finally, do any of you ever trap a 1 shade defender? Matt
The trap hits so fast downhill that the backside EMOL shouldn't be able to make a play. If he is, have the QB boot and keep it or throw the boot. You can read it out of the gun but I don't think most people read trap as much as they do zone.
I agree with stick. We don't block anyone outside of the trap-man. The trap is quick enough that there should be no problem. We tell our tackles that they should not block any linemen or stunting LBs. They know to block standing LBs only.
