This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
when you have 2 safties in the shell look, how do you allign vs 2 backs 1 te and two recievers (slot). Do you drop one of the safties down and become a 3-5? or slide one safty over the slot reciever, one safty in the middle of the field, and have the TE side corner play outside of the TE?
I suppose it would depend on how you are working your "robber". Are you turning your coverage into a cover-three look (only sinking one of your safeties underneath) or are you rolling both safeties underneath deep coverage from the corners?

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
Since you already have both safeties moving underneath, I think I would sink one down onto the slot (making more of a 3-5 look). I'd have him beat on that slot and take that underneath coverage from there. The other safety will then look as if in a C-3...your coverage zones would then go off of that. You also then have some more blitz options.

We have done it both ways....It really depends on the type of action that you get out of the back door(weak side)....If we reduced the front on the back side, we would remain in a shell.....If we did not reduce the front, we would invert the secondary.....Do not reduce and invert, because you will be out flanked badley to the back side.........
we do a couple different things. In general, I try to always hold the 2 shell regardless of the formation. We will sometimes use the corner on that side as the robber player and roll both safeties to a cover 3 look behind it. Your OLB can play the underneath route and redirect if needed. Its good because it confuses the hell out of the opposing QB who at first is expecting a 2 coverage because of our alignment, then is getting a wrinkled version of over 3 where the corner is playing the under routes of the #1. Lots of passes defenesed and a few pics just out of this coverage.
You are a little more susceptible to run game that side.
