Coach the inside zone scheme pretty much started to be used by numerous coaches when the rule change in 1985 allowed offensive linemen to block with fully extended arms and hands. I have written many articles on this topic. Coach CAmpbell
ACTUALLY - Vince Lombardi used it in the 1950's (Giants), & 1960's (Packers) on his WEAKSIDE OFF TACKLE PLAY with Jim Taylor carrying. Check out the earlier editions of Lombardi's book "RUN TO DAYLIGHT" (mid 1960's). He spends 3-4 pages diagramming the play, & there are great DRAWINGS of the execution of the men blocking. Lombardi called zone blocking "DO-DAD" blocking!!!!!! EVERYONE SHOULD CHECK THIS OUT!!!!!
Woody Hayes used it at Ohio St. Some of HIS disciples that used it in the NFL are Joe Bugel (he put it in for Bum Phillips with the Oilers in the late 1970's, & with the Joe Gibbs Redskins in 1981), & Alex Gibbs. Jim McNally & Howard Mudd were earlier practioneers of the play also.
