Hi everyone I need some serious advice, I am young coach who has taken over a struggling HS program. This team has won 1 game each year for the last 10 years it has been tottaly decimated to the point where when I arrived at our spring camp we had more coaches then players. This fall with the help of some recruiting our numbers are up we have about 18 regular core guys and another 4-5 who are hit or miss. This season has been a dream for us, we are currently 4-1-1, and into the playoffs for the first time in well...... ever!
I run a 4-2-6 gap control defence with the 6th db being a rover type player who adjusts pre snap to trips or ace, he is a versetile guy who we drop into coverage, blitz lock up on a reciver or give him a gap respnsibility.
We have a coach in this leauge who has been around for what seems like generations and he absolutly schooled us in our only loss of the season. Now here is what he runs at us and it reall gave us problems.
He ran doube TE with both WR stacked to 1 side. He pulls the guard, FB replaces pulling G and the guard leads off tackle either side where the TE is. He also ran pullng guard counter to one of the WR who was lined up less than 3 yards from the TE. The final play he ran that killed us was the RB screen this kid was their entier team he was all over. Other than the screen they really did not throw it much just lots of misdirection runs.
Now I think I have a solution for the RB, I will spy him with our Rover, and make sure that we have someone smashing him on every special team his is on.
But the TE set, and the misdirection is giving me a headache! Our D has been pretty vanilla till now we have just started putting in twistis and stunts (95% of my guys have never played before). My thoughts are to stack the box run c-0 almost exclusively. But I am not sure how to set the guys up with the TE.
This may seem odd but in Canada we really never see a TE it is like a Dinosaur at one time they were every where and now no one would belive you if you said they exist.
Any help would be awesome. I checked out the defending the pulling guard post and got some good ideas from there, but I need a little more advice!
