Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Looking for advice for defending a team with an excellent running QB (decent arm) that spreads the formation to look for seams to run.
Base 4-2-5
We run 0,1,2,3,4 coverages plus a ton of robber as well.
I was actually thinking about playing a Robber scheme and using my F/S, who is a stud, but won't tell him to play the qb and play cover 2 behind him. Walk the spurs out 1/2 way play the 2 corners at the hashes and let my F/S stay over the top and "SPY" the QB because he is the only one with the legs to keep up with or track him down. Just let him play flatfooted and down hill. I then can send 5 every play and let him cover if the QB spits out.
I think your plan seems sound enough. Scrambling QB's are a pain in the rear! One thing you might think of as well--it seems a bit different than what you've been doing, but doesn't have to be--run a 3-3 stack package as well--replace one of your DT's (or a DE if you have a DT that can play out on the tackle) with another LB. Will allow you to get a bit more speed on the field in that second level, plus you can run the same coverages as you did out of the 42, and gives you a bit more flexibility in your stunting when you send 5. The only thing that has to change is the kid you slide down to nose must not become a gap-shooter unless he's involved with a stunt. Just a thought.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
We call it slide, and you can slide either direction based on scouting, If you are having trouble with the QB, slide away from the back. We call slide to or away from strength. However you start, they usually adjust, then we go the other way. Basically it frees up one end to bring some pressure fast to force the issue with cv1 behind it. Our interior handles A & B and our M & B lb's are free to flow.
If you need more pressure (from above diagram) bring W in late off edge and have F rotate to #2 late and go cv0.
Your plan sounds good especially if your FS presents the best match up.
If the pitch is not a big factor another alternative would be to put your FS late on the pitch, take a good angle to give up a short gain and play your Outside Backers on the QB.(They are in better position to take QB and can work outside in rather than inside out) Have them come up across the LOS as soon as they read option. Keep their shoulders square, breakdown on the Outside 1/2 of the QB and force him back into pursuit and your inside linebackers also assigned to the QB.
Depending on the quality of your Ends or Sub a linebacker for an End as was stated in another post you could stem your Ends 1 yard outside, Jet them up the field and take QB. As stated above have them keep their shoulders square, breakdown on the Outside 1/2 of the QB and force him back inside. Or have them Box Out(2 steps out and 2 steps up into the Backfield). The stemming and boxing is to keep the offense from checking to an inside run. Then play the Outside Backer as a fill player inside of the Jetting DE.
