Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Hello, New to boards and worried about tonights game....We play a very quick defense tonight and it's had me up all week.
Our team runs a Pro I Triple Option (We dont' actually read the Dive) and are going against a standard 4-4. Tackles are in 3 and 1 and ends are lined up in a 5 and 7. The ends crash through the V of the neck and play QB, the OLBs are walked up tight and cover pitch. We are a "smash mouth team with BIG lineman" so I think we will be able to move the ball a little with the dive. The problem is their DTs will DIVE at the feet and make a pile after a few plays of getting drove off the ball. They have stopped alot of teams.
We will throw it a little (Cover 3) but they get so much pressure on the QB even on playaction because they are playing responsiblity football.
I guess my questions are 1. What plays look good against this? 2. Anything to do about the DIVING DL?
We do also run G lead, which is a VERY good play for us, but with the ends crashing down it will be a very tough block for out guard.
We have had success against diving DL by crossblocking them, getting drilled in the side a half dozen times will make them slow down on that diving stuff, also don't bother trying to double them, just get you OL up to the backers. Run veer to make the DE tackle the dive and you should be off and running.
You are right. Just concerned about the diving linmean the most.
Just looking for "last minute" advice......Hopefully we'll be ok...It's the biggest game in this part of the state. Both top 10 in classification!
Maybe too late to make changes as Coach Mountjoy said. You can run the G strong by having the pulling PSG kick the walked up OLB and the TE stay on the 7 tech (you may also want to have your Z cheat in and crack the ILB).
Load option strong will go if you do this:
-FB aim for inside number of walked up OLB. If he bails for pitch, turn up for saftey.
-Z tighten split and crack ILB
-QB run inside of FB kick out or follow him up the alley, pitch off corner
-TE and PSOT down on 3 and 7 techs
-PSG- BSILB
If the OLB goes out to pitch early, FB will not have to block him and can lead the QB up into the alley.
IF THIS IS NOT SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU ALREADY DO, I DO NOT SUGGEST YOU PUT IT IN ON GAME DAY. Tweak =OK, New = bad.
If you have FB trap in, that is good vs a 3 tech and walked up OLB too.

Thanks Caveman, We actually run alot of plays simliar to that and look at the load as a good play. Just depends on if our TE can man up and block the end. That's good info.
Don't know if it is part of you playbook, but if you are able to get their ILB's cut off, run load to the outside. and pitch off of the OLB or crack back on him and pitch off the CB. If that DE is shooting that hard inside, you should be able to get around him relatively easily if your TE can get across him.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
Guys, we won the game pretty comfortably (2 TDS)....Thanks for the help....Had alot of success putting a slot/Blocking back outside the TE and blocking the OLB on the option.....Thanks again...
