Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I agree with coach that the dump pass to the tight end side off the inside veer or midline fake is very good. You can also run it to the slot side or doubles side depending on your formation. Hopefully you can get an overload to the TE side. A great play off the speed option is the wheel to either the TE side for the slot. Hope this helps and you have a nice Holiday.
our best PA off Veer (splitback GUN) was crack seam by #1 and wheel by #2(get wide).this is because we try to block safety with @1 and corner with #2 so it looks like our blcking scheme. We mesh and drop back 3 steps and swing the pitch back as a release.
like stealing candy from a baby.

Most teams that I see on TV are running their playaction passes off the Zone Read, the University of Florida does this alot. I think you need to come up with the routes you like and then adapt them to the type of offense you run.

May not be exactly what you are looking for, but I have always had success running a shovel pass off the veer. Run the outside veer to death, then throw in the shovel. Beautiful part is that you can still have your outside option game if the pass isnt there.
I listened to the guys from Grand Valley State, they run a bubble screen off the zone read rather than a pitch man, we haven't run it yet, but it looks pretty nice on film.
I really like the idea of the bubble screen off the zone, it is a nice substitute for the option play. One play we have run with great success is a simple out route to the X receiver off the inside veer fake. Once we get the corner biting then we hit the out and up.
You can actual read the bubble screen off the zone. It can end up being a quadruple option. If your QB reads that the OLB is cheating in to the box, he can communicate with the slot receiver to run the bubble. Nifty little play that is a bear to stop.
not to steal the thread but i have found the PA possibilities off zone read to be more plentiful than either Veer or Midline.combining bubble as was suggested above.also seems a lot of NCAA teams run a jailbreak screen off of zone fake.question is do you fake the back going toward the side of the quick screen (whether it be bubble or jailbreak) or away from the pass side? have seen it done both ways. getting popular in the CFL is zone read with a true read on the DE with an out or other quick concept away ie if QB doesn't give on zone and keeps he now has a quick concept route(usually an out) or can take off to the other side.gotta be sure lineman don't take off but it's a pretty sweet "option play"
Doc on the bubble it is good to fake to side and the helps the QB with his motion. On the jailbreak we faked away. They are both great plays, on the jailbreak we also run a double screen, the jailbreak to one side and swing to the other. Don't forget you can also double the bubble. Colorful huh!
when u run the double screen do u still fake to the back? most double and triple screens don't have a fake run. coach, double bubble is a bubble gum i think. do you mean double the bubble with a swing the other way or two bubbles one each way?
You have a bubble to each side, only on the double screen with the jailbreak do you have the swing pass. As far as the fake that is up to you, if it helps your timing then use it.
love double bubble gum Mike but how are we reading this "double bubble"(such a cool name) concept? looking for uncovered? and calling it at the line pre snap?? is this out of 2 X 2 so that #1 can take care of most dangerous? when do u use this as far as game planning is concerned?/ thanks
Doc you don't determine who will get the ball until you come to the line of scrimmage so you see the coverage. It is extremely good when your opponent is definitely trying to stop your running game. Went out of doubles and had good success. We primarily went with the bubble and then set up the double. We then had the receivers fake the bubbles and ran a QB draw after a ball fake.
Off the inside zone and veer from gun there are several good combinations you could run especially if you want to get into trips and or doubles with motion to trips. Coach Campbell
