Question for all the zone running and Colts running gurus:
in watching the coaches film from the Bears/Colts Super Bowl( was available for d/l from NFL Europe a while back)) I noticed an outside zone run on 2 & 3 from the left hash.
They were in their 'deuce' formation and Bears in an Over front and walked the OLD down to a 9 over the left TE.
They ran the outside zone to their right (uncovered RG pulled around the Y and blocked the the play side LB -Briggs). What confused me is that they did a 'false pull' of the left guard around the left TE (away from the play). This kept the backside 9 from pursuing but it DID not stop the backside (30 tech) ILB (Urlacher) and he was able to flow and make the stop to leave a 3 & 1.
Question: Does anybody know why they pull the LG (uncovered) around the LTE when the play goes to the right? It seems to me the LG/C should have combo'd the backside 1 to the backside ILB and this would have kept him from making the play (leaving the RB to only deal with the SS crashing down - Bears were in a 2 shell but rotated 3 Sky to the play side at the snap- either good scouring or good luck).
I would guess that is one of two things...either a mistake by the BSG, or it was something where they noticed the Bears reading the near guards and flying with them immediately. Also, remember, this is Brian Urlacher making the play. How many MLB's even in the NFL can go from 4 yds deep, shoot a back-side gap and chase the play down behind the LOS? I'd like one, I'll tell you that!

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
