This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Anyone use rocket or jet sweep to hold the backside DE instead of a reverse??? Gives you the same look but maybe a more effective play??? I understand the action of the line are going the other way but it gives you a split flow series in the backfield. Thoughts??
Jet sweep can be a great play when it is run right. I've seen offenses completely centered around it. If your backside contain is not honoring it, it will shred you. I don't think it lends itself very well to an I-type backfield, though. In that case I think the traditional reverse-action/end around is a better play.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
Coach
Being one of the coaches who runs Rocket/Jet as our offense, to answer your question:
Yes it will hold the DE.
Yes it does lend itself out the I/split back/ single back/no back/ unbalanced/spread etc. We use 30-40 different formations each game and run jet/rocket from any of those formations
However here are some cautions with running the Jet/Rocket:
1. It is not a gimmick play. To use as such is not only a waste of your time, but it can be defended easily when coaches only dabble with it.
2. You must run compliments off of it. If you do not then it is defensed easily.
3. Best outside plays in football when done correctly.
4. Do not look to the Pros or College coaches to learn how to run it. They dabble with it and therefore do not run it correctly. High school coaches have been running far more longer and know all its ups and downs and have answers for each.
5. DO not make the mistake of thinking "well you need fast guys to run it" That could not being any further from the truth.
6. It is not Wing T, though the Wing T guys claim it as theirs. It was created by a high school coach out of Georgia, but got its popularity from Coach Hershcel Moore at Cumberland University in TN. Herschel in fact gave its name "Jet sweep". He was running it before the Fly sweep guys in the early 90's. The rocket got its popularity from Wofford College in SC who is a triple option team.

FINAL NOTE
These plays are so good for us that we have been averaging 2300yds rushing a year. This not including the Passing numbers we are putting up now as well.
We dont lose any games we just run out of time.

Anyone see Florida run something similiar to the TE in the red zone Thursday? Never saw the TE get the ball coming from the LOS on a reverse before, the play hit really quick, they got 8-10 on it. It didn't go really wide like a sweep generally does, it hit just off tackle, and nobody pulled, but it was new to me.
