I would be interested in what coaches are teaching and drilling in terms of pass rush tech for the D Line. Differences if any between Ends and Tackles? In particular pass rush of a 1 tech.(Usually Double Teamed) I have heard the school of thought to split through the double team, do not worry so much about getting to the QB and controlling the QB scramble up the middle. Any suggestions, drills, techniques that have been good for you I would like to hear about.
I think that technique for your 1 tech is sound. I tell my DT's that I would rather have them learn a good bull rush before (and above) anything else. My personal opinion on that is the fact that it takes time for high school kids to learn the art of reading pass vs. run--especially inside. They need to be able to get into their man/men, control their space, and move from there. If I want them to shoot gaps immediately, I will call a stunt or slant for them.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
This may be off topic but the type of player to put in that 1 tech. is an interesting debate to me. Last year we had a guy who was about 6/1'' and 215lbs who was a defending state champ in wrestling. Needless to say his explosiveness and getoff were his best attributes. The only answer teams really had was to trap him, so we played him primarily in the 1 technique, thinking that he would be much harder to trap from that position and we could let him fire of the ball and do his thing. This probably hurt us in the pass rush department though, since I don't think we saw a guard who could have blocked him one on one all year, but he was constantly double teamed in that 1 technique. Other than moving him around on passing downs I guess it just comes down to making a decision about what helps your team more, disrupting all those running plays or generating a pass rush. We play in a very run heavy league, so we played this guy inside.
Anthony Grazzini Formerly of Elmhurst college has some of the best pass rush tech/drills Ive seen. He has a coaches choice video its pretty good.
Also Brett Williams of the FCPGA has some really good pass rush drill tapes out.
For me as a defensive line coach biggest thing for me is working the hoops. If you take a look at all great pass rushers they all have a great lean, this is what the hoops stress. I probably have 50 drills I can do in the hoops.
If your interested shoot me a message and Ill explain the better ones.
