Countering what the Defense does

Option football is all about being able to adjust. Option plays can be stopped, but a good playcaller with a good system, can counteract that. Option checks are great ways to do this. The key to running option is to run at the "bubble". If you can have your QB identify the bubble, and run the play at it, you are always going to have the advantage. Also, you'd notice that Paul Johnson is very good at setting plays up...run option several times, then run counter option. Once OLBs start crashing hard off the edge, run toss around them, once the safeties start coming too hard, play-action and heave it deep. Option is all about attacking the defense inside and outside with more men than they can handle, and then be prepared to attack somewhere else when the defense starts to adjust.
