Trying to find some information out about zone blitzing. We run a 3-5 and wondering if we can do it out of this set (for example against a 2X2 spread offense)? What are the advantages and disadvantages to zone blitzing? Anyone know any good web sites, articles, playbooks on zone blitzing. Just curious to see if I can use it.
Coach you absolutely can Zone pressure from the 3-5-3 in fact most colleges that run the defense do in fact Zone blitz like Ball State. You can zone pressure no matter what the alignment of the apposing offense is 2x2 2x1 3x1 etc...
The advantages of zone pressure are you can send any of your 11 players on any given play, You keep all eyes in the backfield for run purposes, and have the security of zone behind your pressures instead of man.
Some people will tell you it is better to 0 blitz because you can bring more pressure but you have to understand that zone pressure is used more to attack pass protections, players, a side of the offensive protection or certain run plays, not to just over load an entire protection
Ron Roberts of Delta State has begun to 6 man zone pressure it changes the underneath play of the coverage but its not a huge change.

We only had one true zone blitz in our 33, basically it was an exchange between the DE and the spur to his side...DE was responsible for flats, Spur came off the edge, and we also blitzed the stack on that side. (Mike took a hook/curl drop instead of middle drop, backside stack took middle.) It was a better run blitz for us than pass.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
ii like to send both dogs off the edge, along with the mike up the middle... while the ends drop to hook/curl and the bats take the flats. i tell my bats to check slant by the #2's first! cover 3 behind all of this. I call it Zebra Double Dog Cover 3
