Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Hi everyone. Let me start by letting you know that I'm not a coach but have been trying to learn as much as possible about the game from a fan's perspective. This has taken on a life of its own and now I can't stop my quest for football knowledge! It is such a fantastic sport from so many different levels (power game, strategy, finesse, intelligence, ...)
Can anyone provide diagrams or point me to a good source that helps with identifying the defensive front? This is obviously a critical area, especially for o-line blocking schemes. Some of the fronts would be Pro and College 4-3, Eagle, Double Eagle, etc. Also, I'd like to know the strength/weakness of each if possible.
Thanks in advance for you input. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Our center recognizes the interior of the defense - man on any part of center no mlb - "odd" / no man on - no mlb - split / Mlb whether there is a man on or not - Even
It is our QB's responsibility to recognize the perimeter - By this I mean that if you have a 50 with a 3 deep look the side to the ss is treated as a seven man front / howver the other side is actually a reduced front.
To be successful you need to be able to classify interior and perimeter.
Thanks for the reply, Coach. Those rules are well laid out and easy to follow.
What is the significance of classifying the interior and perimeter of the defense? What does that tell you and how does it affect the play call/blocking scheme/etc.? Also, what does it mean when a front is said to be reduced?
The interior of a defense helps our linemen define their rules. (That and the fact they call out defensive techniques.) I'll give you one quick example. Suppose on one of our traps the playside tackle has a rule of "1st backer from center" and he has a lber over him. Is that the first backer from the center? Well if it is an "eagle front" Odd call by our center it is. If it is a 4-3 Even call by our center he knows he must come down on the middle linebacker.
Since we are a true 3 back option team our QB must put us in the right perimeter blocking. We do not count a noin - support player (Player who would take the defender deep) We count from the handoff key out. (Handoff key defined as 1st defensive man on the Line of scrimmage from "on" the tackle out. Simply put - if #3 is outside the tackle it is non - reduced. If #3 is inside the tackle it is reduced.
