Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
A) On the 3 technique side - the (10 or 30 tech.) LBer must get between the Center & the 3 technique if he reads near back on inside zone track (to prevent the DT). If he reads near back on outside zone track - scrape downhill outside 3 technique.
B) On the 1 technique side - the (30 tech.) LBer must get to the LOS fast if he reads the zone DT block on the 1 technique. This makes the ON G come off the 1 FAST so the DT can't drive the 1 technique vertically!

Vs. Zone option teams - ILBers no different. Have DE on RB side play STILL until he SEES handoff (this SCREWS up QB's read!. Also helps to put 3 tech. to side RB aligns & a GOOD Shade Nose opposite. This worries the HELL out of Zone/Option teams!
If further questions - PHONE me at 804-378-0116. It is VERY DIFFICULT to describe something this deep by typing!!!!!!!
If you are having trouble reading/seeing the zone option, we've had our ILB's cross-read to the far back as well and had success. You can't do it vs a team that runs a good veer from the gun, but vs. zone option, it works very well.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
Our Linebackers eyes mostly stay on the line for there reads (except the Mike sometimes). So we will see Zone blocking but only one of the backers will see whether it is just a Zone run or Option Zone vs. a double split team.
When handling Zone Option i'm considering if a 2 is to the offset treating it the same as we treat veer option with a close by the end and a gap exchange by the Backer.
To a 3 tech side the Backer will need to fill like the coach mentioned earlier and break up a combination block. The end will have the treat the option the same way he treats a boot, but he cannot allow the back to go between him and the offensive tackle.
What kind of technique should those backers use when handling those O-lineman when they move towards the line the maintain there gaps. Normally we are ripping and flowing. Or filling an ISO or spilling a Power and are just playing half the blocker and maintaining a Gap. I don't know if it is better to teach them to take on the blocker like a fill read - but then they may not be able to play off as well and pursue once the ball has gone somewhere else. Or if it is better to take the Lineman on more head up and work more towards getting separation but I don't want a seam to be created in the line. Would this choice depend on who is more of the threat in the running game? Down and Distance?
Just a view from the outside looking in. Since Zone blocking is predicated on covered and uncovered, the ideal situation for a defense wanting to keep their LB's free, is to "cover" both men based their tendencies C/G on inside and G/T or T/TE on outside tendencies. This can be done by over shifting to tendencies with 40 fronts or playing heads up with a 50 front and shading the Nose. The 30 front lends itself more towards a Zone or Gap blocking concept.
Another thing that might work is shifting the LB's just before the snap. Sounds silly but making a change at the last second could throw off the OL for a second while the mentally adjust. That could mean a delay in getting off the LOS or a delay in coming off the combination. I am considering the usual roster of HS players and below not DIV 1 college teams.
Also keep in mind that the ultimate Zone block is driving the DL back and coming off to the LB. If my shift up or over, means they have to come off the Combo faster then I have defeated the real purpose of the block that is to control the DL.
Again I am just throwing things out there as a means to brainstorm something.
Its not about how much YOU know about the game, its about how much you share that knowledge with the people around you.
