Rose - the key I believe with any 2 tight look offensive look when trying to get your defense aligned is not to panic stay with what you have but only move the backside rover to make adjustments. No need to move many players around when adjusting to two tight ends. If you have a backside 5 tech. and they show up with a tight end away from your strength then the rover can make the adjustment backside. Don't need to get alot of players moving around. As an offensive coach that would be something I'm looking for. Coach CAmpbell
Coach Campbell, we run a 4-4 and a 5-3 , and i was just wondering going into a game that you know your opponant runs dbl tight I, which one of these would cause more diffuculty in runing a power offense against. Would switching it up from play to play be better?
Rose - Just some thoughts from a team that runs the 5-3 - The 5-3 is very solid vs 2 tights - 2 backs. We play with a 0 nose - two gap concept if he is good, one gap(strong A) if not, tackles are inside shade of the tackle - outside shade of the guard as a change up, they have B gap responsibility. DE's play outside shade of the TE and fight the hook, squeeze and wrong arm the down block - kick out. Middle LB aligns stacked behind the nos or slightly offset to get a better look at the FB. OLB's align on the inside eye of the TE and are C gap players but will scrape on the squeeze by the DE. FS is align over the strongside TE and Keys the TE for run pass responsibility - if TE blocks fill the alley- QB to Pitch, if he releases upfield play him on any deep route, if he goes flat or crosses the FS looks to double on the flanker and take away any inside move, the corner to the weak side has a similiar read on the TE on the one receiver side. OLB's have Flat to curl pass responsibility(this is the weakness of the defense). The 5-3 is a good alignment to stunt from also.
Coach, We play a very good double TE team. We sub in a Linebacker, they sub in a wr for a te then we sub our corner for our lb. We love playing the Bear front vs double TE I teams. The 7 techniques creates a lot of problems for them.
