Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I'm 24 and decided to leave the "real world" in favor of chasing my dream...becoming a football coach. I just got the ok to volunteer with a small college team where I have the opportunity to observe and learn from some great coaches. Keeping in mind that I have no prior experience coaching and very limited playing experience (high school), what should I try to learn this upcoming fall? What are the absolute must knows/fundamentals of the profession? I hope to learn how to watch/edit/breakdown film, but what else should I demand from myself? Thanks in advance!
I would suggest you learn everything you can. Just being around the program will show you a lot about the ins and outs of how a team is run. I have learned from every program I have been involved with (in some cases what works, and in some, what not to do). Be willing to do anything the HC or coordinators ask. I might also suggest that you gravitate to a particular position or side of the ball that you are interested in. If you are a defensive guy, working with the linebackers is great, that way you are a part of the "inside" hulls and working run fits, and also working the pass hulls/7-on-7 coverage periods. Being a part of meetings, film sessions, and gameplanning will help you learn the way those things work. Again, be willing and eager to do anything they ask. A big benefit for you is just getting your foot in the door. So much of getting coaching jobs, especially at the collegiate level, is the connections you have. Only my opinion, but I hope it helps.
