Last year I had to teach the 52 because that what the HC wanted to do. And I know it probably wasnt a good idea to have 2 defenses, but I threw the whole 353 package at the kids after the 4th game. I ran our 52 with the 2nd and 3rd Defense and I ran the odd stack with the 1st unit. They got it all at once which im sure wasnt the best thing.
This year I get to install it the way I feel it needs to be taught, with no rush. The first couple weeks I wont teach them any blitzes and only one coverage. All the will hear for calls is the direction the D Line is slanting and the coverage, which will be Cover 1. We will concentrate on making our reads and reacting. I want the players to understand whats going on up front with the D Line. At least my linebackers anyway and my FS.
At our first scrimmage I might tell a backer or two (or 3 LOL), to blitz a certain gap, but there wont be any calls yet. This year I can do things the way i want them done. I will be the HC of my last teams cross town rival. If thats not fun< I dont know what is.
You probably dont care about this info but feel free to reply anyways. I just love to talk football. And i appreciate any suggestions!!!!!!!!!
