Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I am attempting to install the 30 Stack and we had our first scrimmage yesterday. My linebackers seemed very slow to react, and I was disappointed at the numerous seams that were in the middle of the defense. What exactly are the keys for the linebackers (Inside and Middle)? And, number two, what if I meat a team that just down-blocks opposite of the play call (For example, I Right 24 lead had everyone blocking down to the left.)
Put in a daily group session...one group is LB's and DL--rep the heck out of your stunts/blitzes/base, etc. The other group is LB's and DB's--basically running a 7on7 over there. Switch the LB's 1/2 way through. The key for the 33 is those stack backers are able to react and get down hill quickly. The weakness of the 33 is a team that can simply muscle up and stuff it right down your throat. In my opinion you need to have an Eagle-type reduction where you bring your DE's (one or both) onto the outside shoulder of the G and reduce your spur to a stand-up DE. Keys--I'm a person who likes to read guards. Many of the coaches here will tell you to read near backs. They are both effective, but I see the chances of false pulls from guards as less likely than false action in the backfield.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
Adding to Coach Johnwayne's question....could one of the veteran coaches provide a quick stimulus/response chart for the Mike backer (and Rob/Lou as well if you have the time)? We also run a 35 and I have just been assigned to LBs after a sudden resignation of the former LB coach.
JR Kelly, by "eagling" the front, do you bring both Spurs down as stand up ends, or shift the defense over, bringing down 1 spur?
Either one. I am talking about reducing down a DE to outside shade of the G from a head-up technique on the T. The spur would then come down and play a stand-up technique as a wide DE. You can do it on one side or as a "double eagle" and it turns into a 53 defense.

Coach, do you slant your DL on every snap? We slant our kids up front and simply play gap to flow with our stacked backers. I should preface this by saying we do this at the youth level of play though.
