Recommendations for the 14-day heat-acclimatization period
1. During days 1-5 of the period, athletes may not participate in more than one practice per day.
2. If a practice is interrupted by inclement weather or heat restrictions, the practice should start up again once conditions are deemed safe. Total practice time should not exceed three hours in any one day.
3. A one-hour maximum walk-through is permitted during days 1-5, however a three-hour recovery period should be inserted between the practice and walk-through.
4. During days 1-2, if helmets and shoulder pads are required of the sport, a helmet should be the only protective equipment permitted. Shoulsder pads may be added on days 3-5, with all protective equipment and full contact permitted on the sixth day.
5. Beginning no earlier than the sixth day, two-a-day sessions should be followed by a single-practice day. If a two-a day is followed by a rest day, another two-a-day is permitted following the rest day.
6. During two-a-days, neither practice should exceed three hours, and the two sessions should not total more than five hours.
7. It is strongly encouraged that an athletic trainer be on-site before, during and after all practices.
