Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We have a Senior that has never played QB and is mad that is is not starting. He is starting WR and DE and will help the team a lot at that position. He is used to being the Star in everything and comes from a family who can never do wrong and is always the best and the star. Our staff have 7 criteria that we ranked them on and added it up. I am from this town and grew up here, so I know the families in town and the "special" families also. He is pouting about not being the starter and missed our defensive film session and meeting last night. I am debating how to handle this one. I don't want to have him get punished for missing and pout more and hurt the team, but I don't want him to think he can do what he eants since he isn't starting QB. I am tempted to make him do the running for missing, if he acts up, I have a fresman QB that could start in a lot of towns, he can back up the starter. Any input??
"The Jordan Rules" will get you into trouble. Punish him as you would anyone else who misses a meeting or practice. If he continues to pout remind him that this is about whats best for the team and there are no "Super Stars" in your locker room. Lead, follow, or get out of the way!!
Its not about how much YOU know about the game, its about how much you share that knowledge with the people around you.
This player obviously has a "me first mentality", which is endemic to the philosophy of higher education today, & has affected the quality of people in College & Pro football as well.
By handling him like any other player that misses a meeting, you will be teaching him a lesson that will be valuable to him in later life - that is, that he won't get his way all the time.
Upon graduation - a stint in the US Marines would benefit him immensely!!!!!
I appreciate your advice as always. That is kind of funny about the marines, we had a Senior do early enlisment this summer. He came back from boot tough as nails and his additude is way different. Everything is yes sir , no sir from him and he is the fastest kid on the team. The military has a little easier time with the punishment of the guys when they step out of line, they basically own the guys. I am making him and the other two do some things for missing, where there is 3 of them it won't look like he is being singled out and picked on. The other two had family weddings they had to go to, he just didnt come. The one things I have learned so far is keep things consistent and the kids will come around, hopfully. They have only won 1 game in four years here and this is my first year with them. I just dont want to do things the wrong way, thanks for all your help.
Coaching high school football is all about consistency and trust. Be consistent in your consequences and keep your word so that your player feel they can trust that you are there to make them better.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
If the field is level and the slate is clean then everyone has an equal chance to get the job. JR is absolutely right, consistency will get you where you want to be. Not only that I think you retain more kids by being fair and consistent than having different rules for different kids.
