Well, we won our first game of the year against our rival 62-0. I was very pleased by our defensive effort. NOW, we will be playing a team this week we have never faced. I have heard they are not very organized but they are gonna have a couple of very athletic kids and will just play backyard ball but with some fast slashers.
I had to ground our kids in the fundamentals and keeping with our assignments (more than usual, all the cutbacks, reverse's open field etc.) but I am very weary of how this is gonna go. We are a small private school and they are a public school that pools from 475-500 students. Im hoping our discipline and the execution can pull us thru. I am confident we will throw up points on O, but me being the DC am a little worried. (we looked good in practice all week against our stud, who will probably be better than theirs, he will play Div I)
Any advice to help calm my nerves ? Am I missing anything, I know its a little late all we have left is walkthru Monday, we play Tues.
we got beat 22-6. We held them to just one score the whole second half. We had a couple missed tackles that resulted in 2 TD's. Really if you would have told me we would hold them to just 22 I would say we win this game. The O never showed up. Our only TD came off a fumble from our RB that the TE picked up and ran in.
Im proud of the D, these guys were all bigger and faster than us,they have worked hard but we are still having a few open field tackles missed. We will see these guys again in a few weeks. Looking for better results then.
and week three is a 32-6 victory. We played outstanding ball especially on D where we had 4 INTs one was a pick 6. The kids had fun, tackling was better, still need work. Overall I am very happy the kids are all in the right spot during the play.We were able to get everyone in the game and I was very happy with that.
Hoping to get my corners to tackle people one on one in space outside. That is our major flaw right now.
