Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
E = Head Up 6 technique. Rip thru inside shoulder of TE - C gap resp.
T = 4I Inside Shoulder., Rip thru inside shoulder of OT - B gap resp.
N = Head Up 0 tech. Play to TE side A gap.
OLBers (double Strong Safeties) = 1 yds. outside DE & 5 yds. deep. Play Cover 1 (Man on #2 receivers) OR Cover 3 Zone. If #2 blocks DE - quick run support D gap.
MLB = Stack behind Nose - 5 yds deep. Resp. for A gap away from Nose's charge (check it before pursuing). Cover 1 (Man on #3) or Cover 3 zone.
Corners = 5 yds deep. Play eithert Coverr 1 or Cover 3.
Safety = 10 yds deep. Play either Cover 1 or Cover 3.
NOTE: Very easy to adjust. Vs. 3 x 1 set - the weakside OLB (S/S) simply goes over to the other side (just inside #3)!

GENERALLY the 2 S/S (OLBers) had pitch. Ends had the QB. DT's & Nose has dive. MLB (the stud) worked from inside-out, overlapping from dive to QB to pitch. The F/S MUST be strong in the alley (esp. on Cover 1) to help on the option.
We also had (important) "COMMON SENSE RULE" for options. Here it is:
IN EACH DEFENSE A PLAYER IS ASSIGNED A SPECIFIC PART OF THE OPTION. THEN ADD ON TO THEIR RULE THE WORDS "OR THE FIRST MAN TO SHOW WITH THE BALL". THUS, IF I AM A DEFENSIVE END WHOSE MAIN RESPONSIBILITY IS QUARTERBACK ON THE OPTION, MY RULE IS: QB OR THE FIRST MAN THAT CHALLENGES ME WITH THE BALL. BY DOING THIS SHOULD A BLOCKING SCHEME OR PLAY CAUSE OUR OPTION COVERAGE TO BREAK DOWN AT A GIVEN POINT, PLAYERS SHOULD BE READY TO MAKE THE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENT.
NOTE: There are MANY types of optioins run from MANY formations with MANY blocking variations. Too many to discuss. I HOPE what I have written above gives you an idea or two!
Do the C gap players wrong arm and spill to the 5x5 backer or do they contain? If they spill how do the 5x5 backers both play contain and cover the #2 reciever, seems like they could get run???
We ran something similiar to this as far as alignment goes, we ran lots of games with our DE and OLB but generally our DE was contain and our LB was C gap, although looking now at the original post it says the DE is ripping through inside shoulder of the TE. We actually went to this look from the odd stack because we found that our LB was getting downblocked by the TE too often, changing to this alignment made us pretty tough in the C gap because there is no easy angle to get to the OLB and our DE was taught to jam him on his way to the deepest man in the backfield. Your De has to be able to really squeeze the kickout block if it comes at hime though.
6 tech DE didn't wrong shoulder - "squeeze contain". If TE releases he doesn't penetrate beyond TE's butt - he turns inside & attacks any inside-out block. MLB is virtually unblocked on anything to TE side. Nose works A gap to TE side; DT works B gap; DE works C gap; & MLB cleans up.
vs. 3x1 don't bring the SS over instead leave him on the weakside back him up to 10 yards and have him play the as a 2 high safety he can now help out on #1 backside or rotate to the middle of the field and help on #3 on a vertical. Mike plays to the H/C to the side the back goes.
Backer to the trips side squeeze contain and the Safety can play the gap between wing and the TE along with the mike.
Coach Mountjoy this how Willis White told me he adjusted last nite.
51 defense blends very well with 44 all you have to do is stack the two ILB's over the center.
We LOVE doing this and will play a straight 51 look (tackles in 4's) or a Double Eagle look (tackles in 3's). We play the Double Eagle look more than the base look.
All out of Robber or Cover 1 depending on the back set.
Corner over if its single width trips. OLB over if its double width trips.
Motion to trips from 2x1 out of the backfield or 2x2 from across, we just bump the 3 backers across at the 2nd level. Same thing with motion from 3x1 to 2x2, just bump it across OR you can drop an OLB and move the FS up on the motion man. We do that to depending on match ups. But its Real simple!!!!!
VERY EASY FOR HS KIDS TO UNDERSTAND!!!!!!
Now you can give your even look plus a very tough odd look while never changing your coverage philosophy.
We LOVE the 51 vs option teams. Flex, split, bone, I veer.

When you play robber do you assign them to half or are they man to man on the #1 reciever??
When you play off and cover 1 how do you play 3 step??
When you bring the OLB over who is your force player??
