I just took over a losing program (won one game last year). We now stand at 3-1, our kids are staying out of trouble, I have instituted a tutoring session for our players, and begun a leadership program to teach character development. For the first time in this school's history the parents are happy and their is a positive buzz in the hallways.
Now the other day, my assistant principal called me into his office and chewed my butt because "I need to step it up in the classroom." He said I watch film during class, my lesson plans are bad, my kids are off task, etc. Now that is just not true, and he wouldn't know because he hasn't been in there.
Nevertheless, I have apparently earned a reputation with administration as a bad teacher/good coach. I have heard that this particular AP doesn't like me personally and may be badmouthing me to the principal about my teaching. I try my best to be a good teacher and a good coach, but I am not perfect and sometimes I have off days in the classroom, but I have always prided myself on being a good coach AND a good teacher.
I am really down about the whole thing. I have worked my tail off to turn the program around and so far have exceeded everyone's expectations, and yet I still get crap from admin? I mean the day he chewed my butt was the day after we pulled off a hard fought upset in overtime. I just feel really underappreciated.
I am starting to think that this place isn't all about football and isn't all that interested in winning.
What should I do?
