Here's the situation. We are a program that has not been historically great. However, we are in the process of building it into a very respectable program. This year we won our 3rd division title in 5 years, our second undefeated regular season in the last 3 years, and the first sectional crown in the history of the school. However, we seem to be on an every other year cycle. Division titles in 2005, 2007, 2009, around .500 the years in between. There wasn't a significant drop off in talent in those years and the teams weren't so senior laden that graduation depleted us. We think there could've been some complacency by the players and maybe some on our part, if we are totally honest with ourselves. What can we do to help curb this? There is talent moving up from JV to push the returning Varsity guys, maybe more so than in recent years, and we think that could help. But, anything you guys can offer would be appreciated. Thanks.

SELL them on working them HARD in the out-of-season. That is what the GOOD ones respond to. The Jackasses may balk - but that's what Jackasses do best! Hold them to goals & standards that measure their progress (IF you work them hard enough - they won't have time to get complacent, & the "cream will rise to the top")!
