This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
i would like to know some of the blocking schemes you guys use on kick off return. We ran one scheme and it was fairly successful but we never broke anything across the 50yd line. I would like to see what you guys do that i can possibly implement it.
The best, most reliable return is a simple middle wedge or double wedge. Can set it in multiple ways initially. Basic blocking scheme...first line retreats to the level of the second line, at least. If going against a fast kickoff, have them block to the outside..against an average team or a kicker who does not get the ball inside the 10, run as a double wedge. For this have the front line retreat back to the level of the second line, but now should be shoulder to shoulder and not allow anything to get inside them--spill everything outside. Second line, for both approaches, should regreat back 15-20 yds, shoulder to shoulder, and explode forward shoulder to shoulder on the "go" call. I've seen and used several other approaches, but I have had more big returns and fewer train-wreck returns with this than with any other. I have literally installed this 2 days before a game and run it with solid results after less than 15 mins of total practice time. The key is a return man who will get things north and south and hit a crease with authority, a front line who is ok with absorbing hits, and some tough kids who can work together on the second line.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
If your looking for a man blocking scheme, e-mail me. Pass_46@hotmail.com I went to this because I wanted our players to be more accountable for their efforts. If their man made the tackle then it was easier to teach and coach on film. It was a success and continue to use it.
You can find exactly what you are looking for and alot more with the AFCA's Complete Guide to Special Teams. The foreword is by Frank Beamer considered one of the better special team minds in football.
I always use a sideline return. Takes away half of the players involved on kickoff. We averaged over 30 yards a return last year and took 3 to the house.

We set a front wall to the hashes if kicked outside the hash and a middle front wall if kicked middle. The back wall will set and lead up and outside the front wall depending on the return direction call. Good success with it. Coach Campbell
