Coaches, who in this forum dedicates practice time to pure tackling? I have heard coaches who do and coaches who don't. I would like your opinion. Thank you.

We incorporate some type of tackling in our individual defensive periods everyday- many times it is postion specific tackling - open field or side line for DB's shed tackling for LB's, DE's - Andle tackling for D line. We have alos run a tackling circuit during the pre season. Tackling drills are never live, no one is taken to the ground and the emphasis is on proper technique, effort - our key words are "HIT", "WRAP", and "DRIVE" - we want to keep our feet moving and play hard until the whistle blows!
In my opinion, if you fail to practice tackling, you will never reach your full potential as a defense. Tackling skill and ability separates a decent defense from a great one.
