Does anyone have a set progression of teaching your QB how to watch film of the opponent? I know that the great QBs watch a lot of film to prepare themselves for the game ie.. Peyton Manning. I have seen players mindlessly watch hours of game tape and get nothing from it. How is film study being taught? Please let me know any tips or trick you may have.
Again...small groups. In my opinion, you have to teach players to key on specific aspects of the game they are watching. If you are an option team, you might want your QB to truly key on the men he would be reading. Passing teams would want to watch certain "most important" keys at that time. I think it is important that coaches remember that this takes time. Studying film is an art that is learned. Just like teaching algebra, build up the skill. Start with focused attention to one or two things and then expand from there. If you have a kid who is a 2 year starter, he should be pretty good with getting details off of film when he gets into the second half of that senior season...hopefully before. I don't think there's a magic bullet approach to it, though.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
