Coaches, do any of you use any illusion blitzes out of the 3-5 (or any defense for that matter)?
If so, I would be interested in seeing how you go about calling them and what rules you have for you're "illusion blitzers".
For example, If you have an illusion blitz called and the illusion blitzers are supposed to spy the back(s) but the offense lines up with 5 wide....do you call off the illusion blitzers and just send the ones that are actually performing a full blitz?
Is it even possible to run an illusion blitz with no backs in the backfield?
Sorry for the simple question, but this is something I am very interested in and would like to gain some knowledge in.
Illusions are created by formation and alignment rules and assignments. Normally if you have some type of blitz called even if it is an illusion you are trying to create and the offense comes out for example in trips or quads there will be a good chance you will be checking out of the blitz to make sure all receivers are covered.
