Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We're trying to develop an IZ game at our school and I need some help in figuring out how to coach the reads to the rb.
We will go either 1 back or spread.
I like the Alex Gibbs method (at least I think I understand it) on the IZ. When reading the 1st DLM if he goes outside you cut it up behind him. If he goes inside you look at your second read inside. This definitely goes with his rollback theory on the play as your RB would never bounce outside on the IZ.
While I like this approach are there any benefits to teaching an RB to go outside his first read/DLM thus making the IZ cut frontside? It would seem to me the RB would be cutting with the flow of the defense not against it which would take away the rollback aspect of the play.
However lets say we run the IZ to a 3 technique who decides to crash inside into the playside B gap which creates a lane on the frontside between the 3 tech and the 5/7 technique.
You MAY have the IZ & OZ confused. I use A Gibbs' method. On IZ read the first DL outside the Center EXCLUDING a shade. The play is BEST run to the shade or 1 technique side, as opposed to the 3 technique side.
RB crams the B gap as he gets his read. IF you have further questions - PHONE me at 804-378-0116 (from 10 AM to 9 PM/EASTERN) & I'll be happy to share it with you.
