I am thinking of using wedge blocking at any point along the line of scrimmage in my I option offense and just make it a give call. Has anyone done this and can give me any info on it. Thanks so much.
we used wedge blocking to help handle a tough MIKE in a 4-3 this year but we still read the play as per usual option.john sterner at splitbackveer.com is a great source for this.

we only wedge goal line and short yardage situations when we actual call wedge outside of that our option game works of zone blocking principles up front. Coach Campbell
You can teach option using wedge blocking techniques. You simply run your option as per usual, but wedge block inside the read man. Set the wedge at the first down lineman inside the read--if that makes any sense. When it is all said and done, it is not much different that veer blocking.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
We have used wedge blocking as a way to feed a fullback the ball. We've been most successful with it against 50 fronts.
Your fullback needs to be able to cut though and have some vision to get more than a couple yards. We would use often as the first play of the game or the first play in a different formation to first see what the D was going to give us.
If your fullback isn't as mobile as you would like, it may work better out of the pistol.
Against a 50 front wedge is preferred but against a 40 front we've had more success attacking the open A Gap with a fullback dive, cutting the backside 2/sometimes a 1 and having the center lead on the mike. Definately would not try it though against a really good 1 tech though.
