Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I usually teach on my flood routes and waggles to GLANCE backside post first, especially with our waggle off sweep play-action, and then look middle level to short. For example, if we call King Richie Red (Pro Right, Roll Right, FLood - Fade, 12 yd out, flat with a backside post) then I teach my progression as BS Post, 12 yd. out, flat. We usually don't even look at the playside fade considering it really used for us as a clear out route. I can only remember one time this past season where our fade ran uncovered (still don't understand how) and our QB didn't see him and hit the drag. I would love to hear other people teach their sprint out flood reads.
I think it depends on what coverage you are going to see from your opponent.
If you know you are going to get Cover 3/4 then I would tell the QB to read the Flat defender from the 12 yd. Out to the Flat route. The QB should be "Alert" to the Fade on the outside and the BS Post. Against Cover 2/1/0 I would tell the QB to read the CB from the Fade to the 12 yd. Out and be "Alert" to the BS Post while having the Flat route as the outlet.
When you say "Alert Backside Post" to the QB then he would know to look at that route either first or second in his progression. For example, if a Safety likes to cheat on this play then the "Alert" call will tell the QB to look at the Fade first to pull the Safety over and then throw the Backside Post.
