Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have heard some people talk about concepts rather than route trees etc. Just wondering what the different concepts were called and what routes they were made up of.

Coach Eagle you can work off the route tree which can be a numbering system our you can work off of a tag hich offers combination routes based upon a tag. Coach CAmpbell
Coach in the past year, I have completely gotten away from the passing tree and teach my 3 step drop game and 5 step drop game as all route "concepts". I organize by Cover 2 beaters and Cover 3 beaters. Any color route is a three man route that has a back involved (we are a pro split veer base offense), any named route is a two man route the outside route to the strong side which has a corresponding inside route that my kids know and a corresponding route to the backside of the formation. We rep the route COMBINATIONS, never the routes just by themselves (except in install in the summer 7 on 7 practices) Route concepts are as follows for me
Cover 3 Beaters
Red - Outside receiver-Twist at 18 Middle - 10 yd out Inside (Back) Flat White - O.S. Fade Middle - Curl Inside - Flat Black - O.S. Post Middle Post Inside - Flat Comeback (2 man route to strong side of formation) Outside - Comeback Inside Corner Curl - O.S. Curl Inside Flat
Backside receivers always run curl or post depending on the route combination
Cover 2 Beaters
Black Post Corner - Outside Receiver - Post Corner Middle - Skinny Post Inside Receiver - Flat and settle Smash - Outside 7 yd. hitch Inside - Corner Short Drag - Outside short drag from 3-6 yards in front of LB's Inside 14 yard dig
Hope this helps a little bit, I've found it is MUCH better to run all routes as concepts and to group them in terms of Cover 3/Cover 2 beaters to help you think your play calls and to install the passing game. As previously stated, we're getting away from the route tree and moving much more towards concept passing. If you want more info. on specifics from our passing game, email me.
