Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
What determines whether you run veer or midline? Theoretically I know you can run both against any defense. Are you looking for certain fronts or certain techniques to maximize success?
Truthfully, numbers plain and simple. If I'm all spread out and can run the Midline with certainty and Mike is soft (back) I'll run the Midline. If he plays hard (within 3 yards) I'm going read option. Certainly fronts play into what I run but, I am all about using pays to set up other plays. As such If they have a 50 front I'm still going to push the inside game and force Mike to, at the very least, look every dang time. You add motion to the Pistol and you can run anything from ISZ or OSV and Options.
The Wishbone is predicated on pounding the FB as if every play was 15 yards. Frankly, a lot of teams had a hell of a time stopping the Dives. If you intend to run from the Spread you have to think along those lines as well. You can use the Bubble and Tunnel Screens to keep the defense honest. Our HS team a couple years back had the ISZ, Midline, and Read option down to a T. Mike plays up QB follows FB, Mike Plays Back FB, Defense collapses on the middle, Simple read the DE and pitch to the Slot or keep.
Those few plays got them into the 2nd round of playoffs.
Its not about how much YOU know about the game, its about how much you share that knowledge with the people around you.
