We teach them to Kick slide from an inside out position using the half man advantage. The Kick is decided by the "V" pof the neck of the defender this tells the takles the defenders first step. Coach Campbell
I have heard you talk about keying the V part of the jersey of the down defender and half man advantage Coach Campbell. My question to you is how do you create leverage on the defender that aggresively bull rushes you?
If my eyes are at the V of the defenders neck and I am looking through my hands to that area, I am lower than the defender thus giving me the leverage needed.
My initial (low to high) punch looking up through my hands to the target has got to raise the defender up to allow me to maintain inside out leverage for the pass block. If he gets across my face to the inside, my purpose then becomes to continue that push across the pocket. With the kick step as I understand, your using it one for a target and two so that your are at least half a man inside the defender that remains true even if he crosses my face. I now have leverage low to high and inside to out. If I allow him to get more than 1/2 way I am am then merely chasing him.
Does that make sense?
Its not about how much YOU know about the game, its about how much you share that knowledge with the people around you.
The reply would be too much to type (about 2-3 pages, WITH diagrams), but I will give you what we feel is a good TIP vs. WIDE RUSH END:
TIPS TO DETERMINE THE JUNCTION POINT:
1. If the rusher's outside foot is back - he will usually make his move to the QB on the 3rd. step. Be ready to get shoulders parallel to rusher's shoulders when he begins his 3rd. step.
2. If the rusher's inside foot is back, he will usually make his move to the QB on the 2nd. step. Be ready to get shoulders parallel to rusher's shoulders when he begins his 2nd. step.
