Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We just came off a very successful fall season improving 3 games from the previous year. We had a great off season with guys showing huge gains in the weight room and attendance average 50+ kids each day. We just finished a spring season where we defeated (won a close one) with one of the best teams in our area. The kids and coaches were jacked!
With input from our leadership council, I gave them one week off following spring. We had our first day back in the weight room and we were missing almost 20 kids. I was extremely disappointed. I thought the kids would be pounding down the door trying to get in to lift.
Now, we EMPHASIZE the weight room. Ad nauseum perhaps. The kids know they need to be there.
Simple fact attendance is not mandatory but EMPHASIS will be given to those who work the hardest to get better. In other words not showing up is not an option.
Time for the "Leaders" of their team to flex their leadership skills, peer pressure, peer pressure!
Its not about how much YOU know about the game, its about how much you share that knowledge with the people around you.
Best way to do it, in my opinion, is to hang a "commitment" chart on the wall. Those who come and get their full workout in, get marked off. It doesn't take long before you can visibly see who your real leaders are. I know a successful coach who also uses this as "pre season conditioning." If you did not get your number of workouts in during the off-season, you were responsible for making up that lost ground when the season started. He has HUGE attendance during the winter and spring.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.

The way I got the attendance up in the weight room was to start a breakfeast and dinner club as I called it. I was told early on when I played football in college by my head coach that if you wanted to create a habit create the desired result at least 16 times a day. So what I did the first week of the off-season was to get several boosters to help me by t-shirts. 1. !00% 2. 110% 3. 125% 4. 150 %
on the first day in the weight room the kids could wear whatever gym shirt that we all used but after the firs week if you came 4 days out of 5 you earned a 100% T-Shirt this you then would wear to the workout. During the second week if you came 4 out of 5 days again you would earn the 110% t_shirt and I would take back the 100% T-Shirt. If during the third week you came 4 out of 5 times you recieved the 125% T-Shirt and I will take back the 110% T-shirt and if by the 4th week you came 4 out of 5 days you earned the 150% T-Shirt and I then would take back the 125% T-Shirt. IF at anytime you did not make the 4 out of 5 days you then would give your t-shirt back and have to start all over from the begining. To make it through the month takes at least 16 times being in attendance for the off season program. Obviously if you want to know how commented the team is that by the time you get to the end of school each player should be wearing the special 150% T-shirt. Kids by in because they all want the 150% effort t-shirt which is a nice T;shirt with a special design. 16 times creates the habit for both the boys and the parents having to bring the kids to workout inb the mornings. I think if you do not know the purpose of a thing abuse is inevitable. I would explain to them that every exercise we do is necessary to their performance and if I could not explain it I would not do it. Also, give responsibility to your team captains to make sure guys are there. If they are no consequences for missing than it will be hard to see the importance of participating. Finally, you must lead from the front. It is hard to tell them that training and taking care of their bodies is important if a coach does not take care of themselves. That is just my two cents.
First of all - give them "off" until after they return (around Jan. 3) from the Christmas break.
Anything you achieve between now and the Christmas break will be LOST over the break (since you lose in proportion to the time it takes you to gain).
AFTER Jan 3 - they MUST be there. We use "fear" as as motivating force (fear of not being recommended for a college scholarship; fear of not getting playing time; fear of removal from the team; ETC.).

If you take a month off of weight training, it will take you a month to regain the strength you lost!
AND vice-versa!!! Gains between the last game & the Christmnas break will be LOST over the Christmas break.
You cannot imagine the GRIND our klids will face between Jan. 3 & August 1 (2011). MENTAL is always 4 to 1 over physical. They NEED a break after a tough season, with what is ahead.
