I got a video that wasnt really what i am looking for. The coach that was the narrator or whatever had no personality. What Im looking for is some on field footage of how we work the motions and cadence and all that. What are some good videos? Ill buy a Package if possible? Think Paul Johnson flexbone... Can someone point me in the right direction?
I have a DVD from American Football Monthly (AFMvideos.com) that is by Scott Dietrich from Parkview Baptist in LA. It is called the Combo Triple Option Offense. I have only the first DVD in the series which shows their basic triple option play with all formations, blocking schemes, and identifying their keys vs. various fronts. It is very good. One of the other DVD's in the series is called non-option running plays and I have heard that he covers the rocket toss in great detail but I haven't seen it.
Coach Dietrich does a great job with this offense and is always willing to talk the triple option. He is very quick to respond to e-mails and willing to help other coaches. I was lucky enough to attend a clinic at their school a few years ago where several coaches spoke about this offense. The fact that Coach Dietrich is as successful as he is running this offense in Louisiana where cut blocks are not allowed speaks volumes about what they are doing.
I agree with what you are saying about cut blocks. I spoke to a coach in TX who has won back to back championships running the flexbone and he said he probably wouldn't run the option if he couldn't cut block. That shows how important he feels cut blocking on the perimeter is to option football. I think Parkview has been able to be successful without cutting because Coach Dietrich doesn't allow the defense to dictate who their reads are. He has figured out ways to always (or almost always) pitch off the perimeter support player instead of block him. That block on the force player is the most important and often most difficult one. When option coaches state that when you can't block a defender then read him instead, they are usually talking about a 3 or 5 tech but Coach Deitrich uses this on the perimeter also. Typical option theory but genius in thinking out of the box and applying it to other defenders on the field.
