Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I know many youth teams that want to teach the option at the youth level run a called option. The coach calls dive, keep, or pitch. My question is if you call the option plays do you block it like a real option play ie. leave EMOL unblocked?

Having worked and visited with many youth coaches the midline and load (Lead) options seem to be the best and easiest for the kids to learrn. Coach Campbell
As Coach C says this is the easiest way to learn the option. I would also add that if you are going to make it part of your offense that it gets its share of the practice time. The biggest mistake I see with the option is that not enough time is spent during practice executing the plays. If you are considering it simply as a once in a while thing, or a change of pace, I personally think your better off with a straight pitch.
There is a lot to be said about the timing and execution of an option, double or triple.

Its not about how much YOU know about the game, its about how much you share that knowledge with the people around you.
We've been able to run midline from under center and now run veer and some speed option out of the Pistol alignment coach. Coach Campbell's philosophy of installing the option based on the proximity of the QBs read is a great way to begin teaching it at the youth level, in my opinion.
I think the key is that you just have to be willing to take the time necessary to give your kids enough reps in order to establish their familiarity with what the reads entail and to give them some confidence to build on.
