Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Pulaski academy from Arkansas pulled this off.thought it was crazy till i read the article.now got me thinking about a version of this.we are in GUN double slot a lot.QB is our punter..line up and call a play like we are always going for it in ALL punting situations(offense stays out there) ...gotta have the balls to do this or it won't work......if QB or coach doesn't like the call vs the defense then motion back three steps and "quick kick" it. Has the advantage of making the defense stay on the field.(granted, our "punt team" now becomes our offensive team). but don't have to work "punt team" and don't need any punt fakes cause your doing the opposite"faking a play then punting it".also influences your play calling knowing you have the extra down and that you're going to go for it much more aggressively.. according to their coach the NET yards in HS don't justify kicking if you have a solid offense when you look at the stats CRAZY ?? or what?
Coach I use the rugby punt in my offense. THe problem this causes a defense is that they can't get their returner on the field. Because are you punting or are you running an offensive play. Usually they don't have a deep returner and stay in coverage. Because normally your QB is a good athlete so I let im punt. Coach CAmpbell
Although undoubtedly a lot more involved trying to pull this off at the HS level, we've done exactly that at the youth level for several years now. Last season our punter was our backup QB and our punt formation was simply an empty set with our QB aligned 5 yards deep rather than our normal 3 1/2 (pistol). We motion a slot to the kick side to load the coverage to that side of the field. We've been able to run jet sweep, QB counter off the jet, bubbles and quick game for first downs when our opponents did not play the formation honestly. Obviously protection is the big concern but with a slightly quicker than average kick, it certainly should be possible in most situations to do.
I'd definitely like to hear about any one elses experience with "not punting" at the high school level.

I used to do something like this when I've coached Freshman teams before. We were able to basically totally cut punt practice time out of practice and worked effectively. I would also do one out of undercenter where we fake a toss sweep and then the back kicks it. A 30 -35 yard roll with no return is quite nice.
I have seen teams get these blocked out of the gun when they do it too often and don't have the QB gain depth.

Nathan I agree with you we do not use a regular punt and use the rugby kick with the QB always taking an arc path when he kicks. Coach good to see ya on the forum. Coach Campbell
