Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Our olbs are having issues defending jet out of our 4-4 scheme. Our rule is that by alignment, our OLBs take and inside shade on an extended #2 receiver to their side. This cripples then when teams have been running jet at them, because we are shaded inside it makes the #2 seal block even easier.
I have been teaching to keep their eye on there read keys, which in this type of situation is the OT. We make good run reads but by the time we need to react to the jet, the WR already has us sealed.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how to fix this?

Once again, I like Coach MountJoy's idea, blitz into it. If you are not turning it into a guessing game your OLB on the side of the Jet Mo must set the edge of the defense and come across the line at the snap.
Our normal motion adjustments vs. 1 back sets is to run with motion even when playing 3 deep zone and bump the IBers away from motion. This takes away the Jet Sweep, our OLB sprints ahead of the Jet man and turns up at the snap and tackles the Jet Mo guy in the backfield. Works pretty well.

We run the Jet Sweep and struggled against a team that ran the very blitz that Bill talked about. Most teams like us do not have enough other plays built in to counter the blitz. We tried making adjustments at the half (like faking sweep and running a continuous 5 yard out with the Jet man) but we had not practiced it obviously and it just lead to a turnover for us. This was our first year running the offense, so a more seasoned team may have an answer for the blitz. You also leave the post route wide open from either of the #1 recievers if they are any good.
Jet FB Down runs underneith the blitzing OLB or looping DE.
Jet FB trap hits hard with a FS covering #2 or bumoing ILB's. If it sneaks through the Mike, no one is there
Jet Truck hits hard too with a rotating secondary or a OLB that tries to run with the Jet mo.
We blitz the OLB and cover #2 with the FS but... we also run the Jet package on offense and look for defenses that defend jet with auto blitzing and rotating secondaries to run these three plays.
Jet becomes the set up play for the Trap, Down, and Truck.
Its like any "series" offense. take one play away opens another.
You just have to practice it on D to take away everything. Responsibility football and don't over pursue.
