Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
This will be our first game going full 52 cover 2 vs Pro....
The team we are playing runs a decent veer option, a good off-tackle Power game, waggle, and can run the fade pretty well.....
I feel very confident with the Cover 2 stopping option and the off-tackle overall.. I believe we can get over the top of the fade routes consistently...
My main concern is the TE release/dump and fade by the flanker.... What is the teaching point for the safety and Strong side backer?
Any general rules or insight to this defense would be appreciated...
Our "DOG" defense (we got from Lou Holtz) is a VARIATION of our 5-2 Cover 2. It stops the Ins. & Outs. Veer, plus the pass to the TE off the veer fake.

Big thing is controlling the OT's and hammering the TE to keep a free release. Do they have a cutback counter off of veer? if they do not, you can sell out and stop the veer.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
There is no cutback off the veer. By controlling the tackles what techniques/shades do you suggest. Right now we are head up on the tackles and slamming thru so as not to let them get down on people.
Best fun play besides veer is the power play with the BSG pulling thru and the FB kicking out the DE. What techniques do you suggest for the DEs who will be kicked out by the fullback or guards on 80% of run plays.
If you have the horses to do it, line up head up on the tackles--possibly a slight inside shade. Blow the tackle back. That block is essential to outside veer, and if there is no cutback, then your backside can flow with it. I don't know how way they pass, but a 53-type look can be effective as well. That being said, the double bullets/ODP that coach Mountjoy has is also very good with dealing with option run. No matter what you run, you have to control the LOS--especially B gap.
