Coach what do you tell you quarterback on sprintout is he told pass first then run and do you ask him to set up if he can get outside when throwing or does he throw on the run? Coach Campbell
I like to teach to 'press the corner'. That is to say, come out hard and full speed. Our print package it is designed to move the pocket and throw on the run. If however, he is forced by the end, or a blitzing OLB to set-up, we work on that as well, but we come out thinking run first. I tell our QB's, if by the time they get around and back to the LOS, and nothing is there, then just keep on running.
If you do not treat it this way, the QB will just coast out with no sense of urgancy and the defense will not be forced to react preperly. Or, better said, the defense will have more time to react properly.
