Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I was wondering what you coaches think of running the power/counter series in a goalline situation? Can it be run on a consistent basis in that situation?
Power I think, yes. Counter, it depends. On the goalline, you need to be able to push people around. Everyone is up trying to stuff up the line, and plays like the counter take time to develop. The power is more downhill and faster hitting. I don't run a true (pulling backside guard) counter in goalline situations. However, simple crossbuck action with quick fold/cross blocks can be very effective.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
Thanks for the remarks. I would think a playaction to the TE on the Power would be a GREAT play on the goalline if you can get everyone blocked. Especially the playside TE because you might suck that safety up and get the TE to run a playaction route to across toward the weakside.
I'd be nervous about running counter, any penetration up front and you are in trouble. Pulling in general against most typical goaline defenses makes me nervous, too much opportunity for someone to shoot a gap and blow up the play, counter more so because of the time it takes to develop and the people generally stacked in the A gaps. We have run counter pass in that situation though and have been succesful.
Power pass, the way we run it, is a great play on 3-1 on the 50, but I haven't used it as a goalline play. We run the power pass with our #1 running a sluggo or post corner and #2 running a 10 yd out with the lead RB dragging the LOS. Not enough room in the endzone for us on that play. At the Goalline, pass plays such as a TE pop, quick slant or an arrow/curl combination are great for us.

(If ON T uncovered): You double team the EMLOS with the TE & a 3rd TE ("U" = who is 18" outside Y & 1 yd. deep) & it hits slightly wider. "H" kicks out first thing outside EMLOS (S/S), & G wraps thru.
A) If the OT is uncovered - you get TWO double teams (ON T & ON G DT the defensive Tackle, & TE & "U" double team the EMLOS). "H" generally kicks out the S/S. B) If ON T covered - Y & ON T DT, & "U" blocks down on EMLOS alone.

Thanks for explanation. I understand it now. The only difference from your diagram to ours would be H would be on the line of scrimmage and X would be back off the ball as a flanker. We would motion U and he would be our Kick out guy to either side with the backside OG pulling. I love having a single receiver out in goalline because if they are covering our best receiver with only one guy, we are going to throw to him. If they have him doubled, then we run. I would like to have U motion and trap either side with backside OG leading through.
